My Fall Bucket List!

I love fall, yโ€™all!

Pumpkins, apples, Halloween, THANKSGIVING! Itโ€™s my favorite time of year.

I love waking up on a chilly morning with coffee in my hand, taking the pups out for a morning run (the dogs, not me!). I go check on the chickens, and Pauly our rooster letโ€™s put his cock-a-doodle-doo!

Fall mornings seems like everything moves a little slower for me.

My youngest had me print out our fall bucket list! Iโ€™ll insert it below!

I created my own bucket list for fall. Mine is going to look a bit different.

Slow down

Enjoy the little things. Enjoy the way the leaves turn, and enjoy how the air gets more crisp. Enjoy family time with the hubby and my daughters. They grow so quick, so enjoy the little moments.

Make time for my husband.

We get so lost in taking care of the kids. We do everything we can to make sure they are happy and healthy. We often lose sight of what started it all, our love. Making time to enjoy each other is essential. Wether it’s date night, or just a quiet night on the couch.

Prepare for Winter

Winter is dark and depressing, honestly. It is not my most favorite time of year. I’m going to enjoy and mentally prepare for the dark ahead. Start taking care of my body, and my mental health. Do things for me, to make winter a little more bearable.

Get more organized

I can’t stand clutter! My goal this fall is to get more organized. That should always me my goal, but like I said, I hate winter. Hopefully being more organized will make me enjoy the winter months a little bit more!

Little changes can make a big difference. Hopefully my bucket list for fall will help me enjoy it just a little bit more!

Don’t get me wrong, my youngest girls bucket list sounds fun too!

Keeping busy while social distancing!

We are still trying very hard to social distance.

Itโ€™s been tough not surrounding ourselves with the many people we love, but also trying to find things to keep our girls occupied!

Iโ€™m gonna share some of the things weโ€™ve enjoyed doing.

Crafts

Painting, modeling clay, slime making, bracelet making! You name it, we’ve done it! We love doing crafts, it’s been something the whole family can enjoy. Our favorite has been the clay, though. The girls love making little sculptures, and painting them. I’ve already gotten a few new jewelry dishes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lots of Reading

Who doesn’t love curling up with a good book? I know we have really enjoyed it. A lot of our summer reading is done outside in our hammocks. It’s our favorite spot to chill. My youngest (A) loves the Mercy Watson series, written by Kate DiCamillo. My oldest (C) loves The Never Girls series! I will read anything, but I’m a true die hard Twilight series fan. I know ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Video Games

I know what you’re thinking, video games?! Really?! But we honestly enjoy playing so many video games as a family. Minecraft is one of our all time favorites. We also enjoy all of the Super Mario games: Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Mario Party, etc. I also started getting the girls into Animal Crossing, although that’s not a multi player so we don’t play it often.

Outside Play

Sprinklers and pools were a huge part of our summer fun! Riding bikes, scooters, roller blading, swinging on the tree swing, playing fetch with the pups! So much fun stuff to do outside, and the fun is honestly endless when you’re outside. We also have a wooded area on our property which is fun for nature hikes and scavenger hunts! In September all the mushrooms around the yard pop up, and it’s fun to go around and identify some of them.

It’s definitely been an interesting year for us all. Trying to find things for the whole family to enjoy can be challenging.

Hopefully this gave you some ideas if you needed them! โค๏ธ

Fall Reading List For You & Your Kids!

There is just so much to love about Fall. Thereโ€™s cozy sweaters, the start of sweatpants weather.

Movies watched under your favorite blanket and candles smelling up your house.

The leaves are changing and the air is getting colder and you know what makes it so much better?

Snuggling up with a book that keeps you hooked from page one!

I absolutely love reading, especially during Fall and Winter. So I thought I would share with you the books that have kept me hooked from the start in hopes that you will love them too!

Plus my little one-year-old already loves flipping through books, so read until the end to see the Fall books I picked up for bub this season! I canโ€™t wait to snuggle up with him and read them ๐Ÿ™‚

Letโ€™s get started with my Fall reading list for both you and the kiddoโ€™s!

A 5-Star read for me! By far my favorite thriller of 2020.

Marin had the perfect life. Married to her college sweetheart, she owns a chain of upscale hair salons, and Derek runs his own company. They’re admired in their community and are a loving family. Up until the day Sebastian is taken.

A year later, Marin is a shadow of herself. The FBI search has gone cold. The publicity has faded. She and her husband rarely speak. The only thing keeping her going is the unlikely chance that one day Sebastian reappears. She hires a P.I. to pick up where the police left off, but instead of finding him, she discovers that Derek is having an affair with a younger woman.

Kenzie Li is an artist and grad studentโ€”Instagram famousโ€”and up to her eyeballs in debt. She knows Derek is married. She also knows he’s rich, and dating him comes with perks: help with bills, trips away, expensive gifts. He isn’t her first rich boyfriend, but she finds herself hoping he’ll be the last. She’s falling for himโ€”and that was never part of the plan.

Discovery of the affair sparks Marin back to life. She’s lost her son; she’s not about to lose her husband, too. Kenzie is an enemy with a face, which means this is a problem Marin can fix. But as she sets a plan in motion, another revelation surfaces. Derek’s lover might know what happened to their son. And so might Derek.

If you haven’t read a Ruth Ware book yet then you need to, especially during the chilly months!

When she stumbles across the ad, sheโ€™s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to missโ€”a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smittenโ€”by the luxurious โ€œsmartโ€ home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family.

What she doesnโ€™t know is that sheโ€™s stepping into a nightmareโ€”one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

Writing to her lawyer from prison, she struggles to explain the unravelling events that led to her incarceration. It wasnโ€™t just the constant surveillance from the cameras installed around the house, or the malfunctioning technology that woke the household with booming music, or turned the lights off at the worst possible time. It wasnโ€™t just the girls, who turned out to be a far cry from the immaculately behaved model children she met at her interview. It wasnโ€™t even the way she was left alone for weeks at a time, with no adults around apart from the enigmatic handyman, Jack Grant.

It was everything.

She knows sheโ€™s made mistakes. She admits that she lied to obtain the post, and that her behavior toward the children wasnโ€™t always ideal. Sheโ€™s not innocent, by any means. But, she maintains, sheโ€™s not guiltyโ€”at least not of murder. Which means someone else is.

Bravo Megan Goldin! Another 5-Star read for me this year!

After the first season of her true crime podcast became an overnight sensation and set an innocent man free, Rachel Krall is now a household nameโ€•and the last hope for thousands of people seeking justice. But sheโ€™s used to being recognized for her voice, not her face. Which makes it all the more unsettling when she finds a note on her car windshield, addressed to her, begging for help.

The small town of Neapolis is being torn apart by a devastating rape trial. The townโ€™s golden boy, a swimmer destined for Olympic greatness, has been accused of raping a high school student, the beloved granddaughter of the police chief. Under pressure to make Season Three a success, Rachel throws herself into interviewing and investigatingโ€•but the mysterious letters keep showing up in unexpected places. Someone is following her, and she wonโ€™t stop until Rachel finds out what happened to her sister twenty-five years ago. Officially, Jenny Stills tragically drowned, but the letters insists she was murderedโ€•and when Rachel starts asking questions, nobody seems to want to answer. The past and present start to collide as Rachel uncovers startling connections between the two cases that will change the course of the trial and the lives of everyone involved.

I love reading Lisa Jewell books in the Fall, she always comes out with a great Thriller!

Soon after her twenty-fifth birthday, Libby Jones returns home from work to find the letter sheโ€™s been waiting for her entire life. She rips it open with one driving thought: I am finally going to know who I am.

She soon learns not only the identity of her birth parents, but also that she is the sole inheritor of their abandoned mansion on the banks of the Thames in Londonโ€™s fashionable Chelsea neighborhood, worth millions. Everything in Libbyโ€™s life is about to change. But what she canโ€™t possibly know is that others have been waiting for this day as wellโ€”and she is on a collision course to meet them.

Twenty-five years ago, police were called to 16 Cheyne Walk with reports of a baby crying. When they arrived, they found a healthy ten-month-old happily cooing in her crib in the bedroom. Downstairs in the kitchen lay three dead bodies, all dressed in black, next to a hastily scrawled note. And the four other children reported to live at Cheyne Walk were gone.

A Decade Of Marriage.

In my last blog I shared that my husband and I shared our 10 year wedding anniversary.

I cannot believe it has been 10 years.

August is a big month for weddings in my circle of family and friends. I know of at least 5 who have gotten married in August over the past 10 years that we’ve been married. Another couple we are great friends with is getting married this weekend, so I thought I would share some things I’ve learned this past decade.

Communication.

Communication is honestly the biggest thing about marriage. There are so many arguments that I could’ve avoided by simply communicating my feelings. When we attending our pre-wedding marriage counseling, that was a huge focus.

We are not perfect, and have to continuously remember “communicate like two lovers, not two lawyers.”

Keep dating.

Yes, you may have been married for 1 month or 35 years, but you have to continue to date your spouse, and keep learning about them. I still learn more about my husband everyday. You don’t have to “go out” to have a date night. Just turn on a good movie, or have a quiet dinner after the babies go to bed at night. Just keep dating your husband.

Never stop trying.

Marriage is hard. Especially if you have kids, careers, bills, etc.

You just have to remember the reason you fell in love with that person. We can’t ever go back in time, but I am a firm believer that marriage is forever, for better or for worse. Love your partner the way you want to be loved.

Enjoy your life.

Life is always changing and evolving. I am so lucky to have found my partner when I did. We have had so many good years, and are continuing to build a life that we enjoy. Our kids make this, life so much more enjoyable.

I’m still in shock it’s been a whole decade, and I’m so excited for what’s to come.

What Iโ€™ve Learned In My 27 Years Of Life!

Hi wonderful friends!

I celebrated my birthday yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚

Itโ€™s crazy how some days you wake up and are like wow, Iโ€™m 27, married with a child. Dreams really do come true!ย

I’ve always been a hopeless romantic.

My life has changed so much In the past couple of years though. My husband and I have always been home bodies but we loved our concerts, trips away for the weekend and going out with friends whenever.ย

We still did those things of course once we had bub but the feeling of wanting to stay home became stronger. Thereโ€™s just something about laying on your own couch with a glass of wine and your fav show that make Friday nights so appealing these days!ย

But now the concert we had set for September is cancelled, thankfully our vacation for the year was in January so we still got to do that but itโ€™s just so different. Even celebrating my birthday yesterday has just been so different.

Iโ€™ve learned so much In my 27 years. Iโ€™ve always had such a big support system growing up and itโ€™s even bigger now that Iโ€™ve gotten married and Iโ€™m so thankful for all the family and friends that help guide me through this journey of life.

My biggest lesson and the thing I try to always enforce is โ€œAlways be Kindโ€ which it can be such a small gesture but itโ€™s so important. Kindness is everything and I wish more people knew that sometimes!ย

There’s a few other things I like to live by as well.

Just because itโ€™s a bad day or a bad week doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s a bad life. Things are always changing and it can always get better.ย

Family comes first.ย

A good cup of coffee can soothe the soul.

Put your phone down. The best moments arenโ€™t looking at a screen. Itโ€™s whatโ€™s behind the screen that matters.

Sometimes you just need to stuff your face with Ben & Jerryโ€™s ice cream and watch Sweet Home Alabama. Or at least I do!ย

Life goes by so fast, spend it with the people who matter most.ย

Your thoughts and opinions are your own, don’t force them on others.

Love yourself, flaws and all.

Thereโ€™s so much else I have learned over the years but for right now those are the most important to me.

With everything thatโ€™s happening itโ€™s just the simple things that matter the most to me and just trying to be the best wife and mother I can be for my boys!ย

I did have a fantastic birthday though! Majority of the day was spent with my bub and he just fills my heart up with pure joy.ย

My hubby always makes me feel special

With his gestures and his kind words.

I am just a lucky lady, so cheers to 27!

Day In The Life Of A Working Mom.

I love reading and watching day in the life blog posts and vlogs so I thought, why not give it a try?

So today I am sharing with you my day in the life of a working mom.

Everyday is different of course but this is just a glimpse at my work days!

6:45am-7:00am- Bub wakes up so that means I wake up even though I am silently missing my snoozinโ€™ in days lately! Anyone else as well?

7:15am-7:45am- Small bottle to make bub happy and get a little morning cuddle time in.

8:15-8:30am- Breakfast for bub which his fav right now as a newly 1-year-old is mini pancakes and fruit! He also likes eggs as well.

8:45am- That first sip of coffee soothes the soul every single morning.

9:00am-9:45am- Play time. We usually play inside and he tears up the house or if itโ€™s a nice morning we head outside and play in the yard.

10:00am-10:30am- I quickly finish getting ready. I shower the night before since mornings are the most hectic and all I have to do is brush out my hair and put a crap ton of concealer on to hide those dark circles so people think Iโ€™m human and not the zombie that I am most days.

10:45am- The absolute worst part of my day. The time when I leave for work and my wonderful family gets bub for the day. I dread it, there are tears involved every time. My son will bawl his eyes out until he no longer sees me and I cry inside every single time.

11:00am-2:00pm- Working and constantly checking in on my son because I am that mom.

2:30pm-3:00pm- Stuffing my face for a quick lunch.

3:00pm-7:00pm- Work but then again constantly checking in on my son even when my husband is home with him. Sorry not sorry ๐Ÿคฃ

7:15pm- I am home and I usually rush to take my work clothes off and put comfys on because sweat pants are life and then scoop up my bub and give him a big hug.

7:30pm-Dinnertime!

8:00pm-Night time routine. A bottle and cuddles and usually a story or two while we relax.

8:30pm-9:00pm- Bub goes to bed and I cuddle a little bit while he sleeps because working 11-7 stinks. I get all morning with him but nights are short โ˜น๏ธ

9:30pm- I shower and put my pjs on and cuddle up with my hubby on the couch for TV time or if we are super tired we lay down in bed. Our fav right now is Cheers on Hulu!

10:30pm-11:00pm- Bed time! This changes daily because on my days off I sometimes stay up later and on working days I can sometimes be passed out by like 9:00pm like my son honestly.

I hope you enjoyed this. I know my work schedule is a little different than a normal 9-5 job so I thought it would be interesting to see how I do my mornings and nights with my son.

Working and being a parent is hard. Itโ€™s hard to juggle it all and everyoneโ€™s days are just so different!

But the reason why we made this blog and what we love to say here is that all you moms (& dads of course) rock and we love being apart of the motherhood clan ๐Ÿ˜Š

Dog Mom

Not only am I a mom to two incredible girls, Iโ€™m also a dog mom!

We adopted Henry (our doodle) when he was five months old from a shelter in OH! My sister was working there at the time, and she texted me the minute he came in.

She sent me one photo and I knew he was going to be my boy!

It was kind of a tricky process since we lived out of state. He also had to quarantine for 14 days to make sure he didnโ€™t have any puppy illnesses.

It took a lot of convincing to get my hubby on board though! He wasnโ€™t too excited about the idea of traveling 10 hours there and back to get a dog…

We did it though! January 31, 2019 ( THE coldest day of the year… I actually think it was record lows that month), we made the five hour trek to OH, after both of us worked the morning! We left at about 3 in the afternoon and didnโ€™t arrive home until 1 AM!

We love our boy so much, and he was totally worth the drive!

Fast forward a year and a half, and we got another dog, Adalyn or โ€œAddieโ€ for short!

We knew we wanted another dog, and our oldest daughter BEGGED for a golden retriever. The breed is such a sought after breed, any time you see puppies for sale, theyโ€™re gone within days!

We were on a few lists for puppies that would be born this fall, but I have to tell you, getting her was fate.

We actually got her from a good friend and coworker. She is four months old, and the sweetest thing!

Being a dog mom is great! It gives me the extra motivation to get up and be active with my fur babies.

I also feel itโ€™s great to show my kids some responsibility. They love feeling like they are in charge of something.

I think Iโ€™m done getting more dogs. We have some many pets itโ€™s hard to keep track!

Thank you so much for reading!

Summer Days! The Best Outdoor Toys For Ages 1 and Up.

Hi friends!

Aren’t weekends just the best?

But summer weekends!? Even better!

Itโ€™s so fun thinking back to last summer I did not so much at all because I had a newborn baby. But now itโ€™s fun to enjoy the sunshine with my little man.

I had a hard time thinking of summer toys that I thought bub (our nickname) would enjoy.

I am learning that the attention span is nonexistent in these little ones. And that the tantrums are constant.

So here in Michigan we had a super hot weekend and we finally got to enjoy all of our outdoor summer toys we accumulated with bub turning 1!

I have rounded up a few that I think are perfect for 1-year-olds and up!

Bub has been absolutely loving his water table and truck! The truck he can’t yet get the hang of that he can actually walk with it but he loves being pushed around. And the big wheels on this one is perfect for rides in the backyard!

Wagon rides in the backyard have also been a fav! I absolutely love this radio flyer wagon. So much storage space, two seats with seatbelts and once again with the big wheels for rough terrain!

Small swing sets and slides are also so great for the younger ones! He loves climbing all around this swing set and it’s fun to watch him.

Who else just loves their backyard? I enjoy being out in ours so much just relaxing and playing!

The last thing we have but I don’t have a picture of is this awesome bike! It’s so fun for short walks and bub loves it. It also turns into a little bike for him when he’s old enough so you defiantly get your moneys worth!

As for me? I enjoyed a great 3 day weekend full of family.

Oh and High Noons which If you havenโ€™t tried, you must! They are so refreshing. Iโ€™m not much of a vodka soda girl but I love grapefruit and I did really enjoy them.

Plus I am now sporting a really nice sunburn! My first of the Summer and I totally forgot how much it sucks to sleep with a sunburn!ย

You know what the best part about this weekend was though?

I forgot about the laundry piling up in my room.

I forgot about the dirty dishes filling my sink.

I forgot about the toys scattered around my house and the pillows that get thrown on the floor each day.

And you know what? I loved it.

These days we wonโ€™t ever get back, so I am trying to soak up every fun filled day I can with my guys!

Especially in the sunshine!

Post COVID Blues

I know what youโ€™re thinking! How could she be sad over this COVID pandemic โ€œendingโ€?!

Iโ€™m not sad that itโ€™s ending and life is getting more normal. Iโ€™m sad because Iโ€™m back to work. 40 hours a week gone from my family.

I canโ€™t wake up and make a decent breakfast and sit down with my family and enjoy it.

Iโ€™m not outside hangin with the girls in the kiddie pool.

Iโ€™m getting home at 5 oโ€™clock having to hurry and think what weโ€™ll have for dinner knowing weโ€™ll be getting take out anyway.

My kids have absolutely NO sleep routine. Actually no routine at all for anything.

My grocery bill is still through the roof. Actually all my bills are.

My house is NEVER clean because theyโ€™re home all day long.

Our weekends are washed away with the piles of laundry I canโ€™t get to during the week.

I am grateful and thankful for my job. I love what I do, and I love the place I work.

I just find that I am struggling to get there a bit more these days knowing how wonderful that extra time was with my family.

Last weekend we went camping & it was 48 hours of family time. I cherished every moment because it doesnโ€™t happen often.

Yes, I do think these โ€œpost-COVID bluesโ€ are a real thing and not many people are talking about it.

Are you feeling the struggle as well?!

Thanks for reading my short and sweet post.

Morning Coffee Chat.

Hi friends!

Monday mornings can be such a drag, especially after a Holiday weekend.

Luckily my son is being very good eating breakfast in his high-chair and letting me drink a HOT cup of coffee!

To be honest, I was having such a hard time thinking of what to write about for today’s blog post. Usually I have mine done far in advance but writer’s blog hit. My inspiration journal was just not doing it’s job and I couldn’t come up with a single thing I wanted to talk about.

So I thought for today, maybe we would just chat and get to know me a little better!

For those of you that are new, my names Amanda. I usually write the Monday posts here on Quirky Workin’ Moms.

I am 26 almost 27 in August. I’ve been married almost 2 years to a total sports fanatic that I have been with for 8 years! We have an adorable almost 1-year-old (silently crying while I say that) son who we just can’t get enough of! We are a pretty active family but most of the time you can find us on the couch watching The Office or Cheers on Netflix.

I am an avid reader and writer, I actually even have another blog more specific to the books I read called hanging with amanda. Anything romance or mystery/thriller is right up my alley. Even historical fiction as well!

I enjoy wine and margaritaโ€™s and the sunshine on my face. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, you can’t beat the beautiful colors in Michigan during the Fall. I absolutely LOVE dogs. We are hoping to get a golden retriever next year and it has me so excited.

Sweet Home Alabama and Legally Blonde are two of my fav movies. Every time Sweet Home Alabama is on TV you can usually find me stuffing my face with popcorn and chocolate.

The simple things in life like family and friends just make me so happy and thatโ€™s usually how I spend my days when Iโ€™m not working!

Iโ€™m just really happy we are connecting with so many other moms out there and bloggers like us! Itโ€™s been so much fun and we are just getting started! Plus today’s post marks our 20th one and that is exciting!

Itโ€™s time to heat up my second cup of coffee and get this little man of mine down for a nap.

Do we have anything in common? I would love to hear more about you all and your favorite things!

Thanks for chatting with me! ๐Ÿ™‚
